Today at 4:00pm, tech celebrities including Brian Cox, Kate Russell, LJ Rich, Rory Cellan-Jones and Stephen McGann (Dr. Turner in Call the Midwife) Dallas Campbell, and Suzie Imber joined students, parents and teachers across the UK as we celebrated the outstanding finalist projects in the TeenTech Awards Ceremony.

From a high-tech alternative to weather balloons, to a ‘tooth doctor’ app to improve dental health, from community buildings based on bee honeycombs to research on decomposing pigs to improve murder investigations, all 59 projects looked at fresh ways to make life better, simpler, safer or more fun.

Schools and colleges may have been badly disrupted, families may have been under a huge amount of stress but ingenuity, tenacity and talent certainly won the day.

All our 95 finalists (62 girls and 33 boys) had strong, powerful ideas but the judges chose the following as the leading projects for 2021.

We are indebted to our sponsors and supporters, here is what they have to say about why they work with us.

“There is a clear role for businesses to work with schools and higher education institutions to raise awareness of exciting data science career opportunities and help ensure the skills taught during education are relevant for the workplace. TeenTech is the perfect platform to help further these goals and support our passion to equip the next generation with the skills that they will need to succeed in the future.”

Serina Allen, ACCENTURE – SPONSOR OF THE DATA SCIENCE CATEGORY

“Working with Teentech, and sponsoring the Design and Construction award especially, has given us an incredible platform – particularly in remote-working times – to reach out across the UK and inspire the next generation of engineers, designers and project managers. The TeenTech Awards fosters the imagination of young people to start their own journeys in this exciting field; bringing people and vital new ideas into the industry. A sustainable, greener future is only achievable with incredible work like this to inspire the next generation.”

Beth Fitzpatrick, ATKINS, member of the SNC Lavalin Group – SPONSOR OF DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION CATEGORY

“There has never been a more important time to spark the imaginations of young people with the possibilities and opportunities of the digital world. The disruption of the global pandemic has caused untold suffering and pain for so many. But through it all, TeenTech has been nurturing and inspiring young minds to design tech solutions for the good of people and the planet.”

Kerensa Jennings, BT – SUPPORTER OF DIGITAL SKILLS CATEGORY

“We are incredibly energised by all students involved. Their creativity and passion for science shines through.  It is a great privilege to be a part of inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers, who are vital for the future of the UK life sciences industry.”
